In what looks set to be a career changing role, 13 year old Storm Reid is to take centre stage in Disney's live action adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's classic children's book, A Wrinkle in Time, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ava DuVernay.

The promising US newcomer - who made her film debut in the Oscar-winning Twelve Years a Slave - was picked to star in the big budget sci-fi filming following an extensive casting call across America, with DuVernay describing her lead as a 'tremendously talented young actress who embodies the hopes, dreams and spirit of a character'. In the film, which goes into production this year, Reid will play Meg, a young girl who embarks on an interstellar travel through time and space with her brother and friend, and she stars in the project alongside Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.
